Matías di Carlo

The Interval
Past exhibition
January 4 – March 10, 2024

In the summer of 2023, Matías Di Carlo's sculpture Crossroads became a part of Artipelag's outdoor exhibition Sculpture in Nature. In connection with the work being repositioned in the beginning of 2024, Artipelag presented a concentrated exhibition featuring the artist.

About the Exhibition

Matías Di Carlo's artistic expression is dominated by abstract monumental sculptures crafted in enduring materials such as corten steel, aluminium, iron, and concrete. Nature is a crucial starting point for Di Carlo's practice, but his works also evoke thoughts of the Japanese art of paper folding and the sculptural language of minimalism.

In recent years, Matías Di Carlo's works have gained increasing attention internationally and in Sweden. Before the artwork Crossroads became part of Artipelag's outdoor exhibition Sculpture in Nature, it was displayed at Vanadisplan in central Stockholm.

Matías Di Carlo was born in 1978 in Buenos Aires, but lives in Málaga, Spain. In his work, he draws inspiration from several different disciplines, resulting in a distinctive expression. He is the fourth generation to work in artistic ironwork but has also worked in architecture and landscape architecture in Patagonia, Argentina.

The exhibition at Artipelag encompassed both sculptures and drawings, introducing Di Carlo's artistic work and offering new perspectives on Crossroads, which was repositioned in the meadow near the Lillemor parking lot at the beginning of 2024.
